...Brisbane based One Eight Three productions is hell bent on bringing Australian hip hop to both Australia and the world with both their globally distributed fanzine Blitzkrieg and the release of The Four Element Effect Cd...In a society that is increasingly dominated by North American culture, One Eight Three is attEmpting to raise the profile of Australian hip hop artists with their new CD, The Four Element Effect.
"...The idea was to bring together a range of groups and sounds in Australian hip hop whilst promoting Blitzkrieg magazine.," explains Jason Dax Woodward, the founder of One Eight Three, referring to the hip hop fanzine they publish.
"...Blitzkrieg promotes the four elements of hip hop culture- Djing, rapping, breakdancing and graffiti art- and although the fanzine doesn't condone illegal activity, it poses the question: " If it is public property, why can't I use it?..."
...As Australia's largest underground hip hop distributor, One Eight Three celebrates Aussie hip hop not only in Blitzkrieg but also with a line of clothing and a videozine series."

...Ksino enlightens us as to the growth and expansion of 183."...The team will be broadened. We already have positive and talented team members that cover all elements of hip hop: B-Boy Busk, DJ Katch, MC Tash, Dmote, Resin Dogs and a buch of others involved and we want to continue to develop this. I have always felt that we need to support and cement the underground connections we have. It is the one thing we all share that the power elite can not control."
...Another thing that the power elite cannot control is the universality of music and its potential to reach and change lives."

... People tend to listen to what I'm saying more when I rap. MC Tash explains... "So you can get your opinion heard on a grand scale. Even though Aussies don't rap about guns, ghettos and expensive champagne, universally we all still have lots in common to rap about like: biters, sellouts, police brutality, drugs, sex and so on."
...Every year we hear Aussie hip hop is going to blow up. Still trying to work out what this means and how we will know when it has all happened. Ksino indicates what is needed to get us all on the right path......"I feel it is mainly personal resources that need to be developed. All the infrastructure is there...We all need to realise that this infrastructure is not a single ladder. Just because someone seems to be rising or climbing, it does not mean over you or at your expense."
The ladder the Team 183 is climbing is getting higher and higher with every production they release. The Four Element Effect is testament to their perspiration and dedication. It features the Fugleman, Etnik Tribe, The Degenerates, Brethren, Trey, Dogbuoy and several others. If you're wondering where to pick it up, try the new Butter Beats, another lovechild of the 183 Team. Inspiration complete."
