Kasino had one of the greatest nights of his life when he painted meet and hung with Grandmaster Flash. Flash actually took one of Kasino paintings back to New York with him.

HYDROFUNK Records put the night on at the Arena on Brunswick Street Brisbane. The placed sold out days before and was packed with over 1500 punters ken to get their fill of Old School cool. The line up for the Brisbane gig included Gravity Warriors, Afro and the Resin Dogs with their new LP. Kasino from 183/ Butter Beats painted a mural of Grandmaster Flash on stage just before FLASH went on. Here is a picture of the work in progress.

Resin Dogs were trying out a bunch of new songs from their upcoming album SHO SOUNDS GOOD. The crowd was super amped and represented Brisbane well. Katch let the crowd groove at a slower pace and Kasino started painting during DJ Katchs set. FLASH gave the crowd the love right back and everyone partied hard. Half way thru his act Flash did a Michael Jackson set which some folks thought a little sus or commercial but Flash reckons Michael is still King of Pop. The crowd voted with their dancing shoes and boogied hard. Obviously Flash doesn't have kids...

Ksino originally was allocated 20 minutes to paint the piece so he chose a sketchy style based on an image taked from his latest compilation out on Strut. With the large crowd and the fumes of the paint sure to annoy the sensitive thats all the time be spared. The canvas was unprimed and all the work had to be strictly one hit styles.

Kasino has now painted for the greats including Biggie Smalls, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, and WU TANG. he rates this event as a true highlight and Kasino says " I clearly remember the first time I heard The Message and the impact it had on me. I was 12 years old attending a family party in Penrith Sydney. I learnt the lyrics soon after and 20 years later I can still repeat them with feeling"...

The painting FLASH took back to New York was a work Kasino had painted 2 years earlier. The painting was mixed media acrylic and spray enamel, the image was a picture of Flash from back in the day and underneath that image a bunch of tags. It had been sitting in Kasino's studio and Tash brought the work to FLASH's attention. Customs at the airport reportedly were uptight about the wood backing for the painting but it got thru alright in the end.
